Take That Detour
A short tale about letting the Universe guide you.
Greetings dear readers. I'm sharing this short (true) story to thank the Lord of Universe for guiding me safely through each day.
This morning I took my dog (Buddy) for a walk after the rain reduced to a tolerable drizzle. Normally we stay on or near the dirt road. Today Buddy decided he needed to go into the scrub brush to follow a scent. That side path ended some 20 feet from the road, at a pile of dog poop. Right as we reached the pile, the sound of fast paws on packed dirt reverberated behind us. I turned to see a large hare zip past where we had just left the road, followed closely by a grey and white wolf, roughly the same size as my 90 pound rottweiler/ newfoundland mix.
The hare was either the black-tailed jackrabbit (above) or the antelope jackrabbit (below).
They were easily running at 20+ MPH. They both quickly disappeared into the scrub and sagebrush. The rest of our walk was uneventful, thankfully.
The lesson I derived was simple and profound. Sometimes the detours from our habit-patterns are blessings. Not only did we avoid a confrontation with a wolf, we also were granted the rare opportunity to witness the beauty and strength of nature, from a safe-ish distance.
I thank The Creator for this event and for guiding us safely out of the path of potential danger.
So remember, the next time you feel the pull away from your usual path, whether by dog leash or something else, heed the urge. It might just show you something new and maybe even save your life.
Here is Buddy, in all his lounging glory.

Excellent results, good story, well told. Glad you and the dog made it home intact. Good eatin' on a jackrabbit.
Wow!!! Never to old to learn lessons! That would have scared me to death! How far from home were u?
